Do you have any questions?

What to do when the boss is absent – business must continue!

If the boss is absent for a longer period of time due to illness, craft businesses should be prepared. Often, only the boss knows all the processes in his company. If he is absent for a longer period, no one knows exactly what is going on.

Illness, accident, or even death – it is not uncommon for the boss to be absent for a long time or even permanently. Employees then need to know what to do to replace him. Sometimes it happens faster than you think!

Building contractor Willi Schmidt certainly didn’t expect this. He took over his parents’ business 38 years ago and has run it successfully ever since. But then he collapsed. From then on, everything happened very quickly. He was hospitalized with a suspected heart attack.

Many questions suddenly ran through his mind:

What will happen to the business and my employees? Who will make the decisions now? Who knows about the current order backlog? What is planned? What discounts have been agreed upon? Question after question arose.

After his therapy, he decided that something has to change. And laid out the succession and all responsibilities in his business in case something happened to him. In consultation with his employees, he decided to digitalize his craft business so that he could work more transparently and effectively.

His choice fell on the working capital management of Craftcloud. Working resources are meant working tools, equipment, and machines: tangible or digital means without which the work cannot be done well.

A suitable resource management computer program can streamline work processes because skilled workers need to spend less time preparing or searching for tools, licenses, or hardware. In addition to efficiently managing new and older equipment, such software also serves to ensure that inspection and maintenance dates are no longer missed.

Thus, inventory software increases safety in operations and can extend the life of operating equipment. To ensure that this works correctly, each piece of equipment is clearly recorded in the software’s database with all the important data. In case of use, equipment software like Craftcloud quickly shows where an item of equipment is located, i.e. which employee is currently using it or in which storage compartment it is waiting to be used. Important customer data, such as notes or agreed discounts, can be accessed by the authorized person on your smartphone or tablet at any time. This saves you valuable time and the source of errors can be reduced to a minimum. Hard to believe, but it still exists.

Many companies still manage their inventory manually, for example with magnets or paper in a storage room. Others have created Excel lists and have individuals enter the data of all employees.

These systems are prone to errors because they rely on the presence and concentration of individuals or on poorly secured overview plans. Information is quickly lost and misunderstandings arise that can have a negative impact on the company.

Today, Mr. Schmidt is glad that he decided in favor of the operating resources software. During the relatively short transition phase, the Schmidt construction company was supported and trained by the Craftcloud team. The daily business is therefore more transparent and it is possible to react and act at any time. Since Mr. Schmidt has redistributed the areas of activity and the respective person has access to the data he needs, it is now possible for Mr. Schmidt to work from home from time to time, or simply to spend a nice day with his family.
